Where do Donation to "Black Lives Matters" actually go?
Updated: Jul 6
I’m confused. Black Lives Matter’s main website, the organization spearheading “defund the police” campaigns, is partnered w/ “ActBlue.” ActBlue is a Democratic fundraising platform that is the top donor to Joe Biden, responsible for 99% of his campaign efforts.
After reaching the BLM homepage, which features a “Defund The Police” petition front and center, if a user chooses to donate, they’re rerouted to a site hosted by ActBlue + prompted with: “We appreciate your support of the movement and our ongoing fight to end state-sanctioned violence, liberate Black people, and end white supremacy forever.”
Now, ActBlue also acts as platform “that enables Democrats, progressive groups, and left-leaning nonprofits to raise money on the Internet by providing them with online fundraising software” — so maybe this makes sense. But some of their fine print is quite eyebrow raising, “In the event that a campaign or committee fails for 60 days to cash a check from ActBlue, your contribution will be re-designated as a contribution to ActBlue”, along with a few other suspect disclaimers.
1. How much money being donated TO BLM ends up WITH “Black Lives Matter”?
2. So despite the Biden campaign insisting it does NOT support efforts to defund the police (atop social initiative of BLM) it happily profits from BLM efforts and supporters donating to that specific cause?
